Why Aragonite?
Initially, and way, way back In the Day I had to come up with a creative name for my fanfiction because I finally had enough of reading and not writing. At the time there was so much great canon-centric stuff out there in tribute to ACD that I had to jump on the ball and the rest is history.
I'm a peronal sort of person, and I have a lifelong interest in caves, caving, and all the wonderful things that go on with them. So I settled on one of my all-time favorite minerals, the aragonite.
What is aragonite?
You buy aragonite sand for marine aquariums...and you buy glorious mineral specimens on eBay. But my favorite form is in the glorious beauty of the freshwater mussel, and in the intricate natural sculptures with caverns measureless to man.
Aragonite is a mineral that is unique and beautiful because it is imperfect. Instead of its molecules stacking all neatly and prettily in the ABCABCABC form, it goes along like this for a while and then suddenly goes ABCABCACB. You've made this flaw any time you've put together a fantastical LEGO building out of whack. It is this flaw that allows the mineral to take on the forms of lilies, curls, jagged lightning and Rube Goldberg's plumbing.
In other words, Aragonite without its 'flaw' would be rather dull and uninspiring. I don't call it a flaw at all, but a differential that forces you to take a second look and examine something more closely.
Best to everyone, and welcome aboard!
